Shopify Redesign for a Cafe & Boutique in Alberta

Today I want to take you behind the scenes of a recently launched Shopify website for Christal at The Nest Cafe & Boutique in St. Paul, AB! This project was a super fun collaboration with my bestie and branding photographer genius Ashley from Photos with Ash, who perfectly captured the essence and vibe of Christal and the cafe. I get to work with the best people!!

↑ That's Christal in her element, isn't she the cutest?!

The Nest's Website: Before

I love showing the full transformation of the projects I get to work on! The majority of my clients have DIYed their websites and did the best they could with their knowledge, which served them well, and I think that is truly incredible and inspiring. Remember to always celebrate yourself for how far you've come on your own!

The Nest's Website: After

Christal was already selling on Shopify, so I designed a new template behind the scenes on the same Shopify installation to keep everything running smoothly.

Besides giving the website a visual glow up, I added some new strategy and functionality aimed at encouraging higher order values, which increased orders by 400% in the first week!

Strategies that I implemented:

  • Added a featured collection on the home page to promote new products in the shop

  • Created a mega menu to make it easier to browse collections

  • Set up filtering to make it easy to refine by category and brand

  • Added a free shipping threshold announcement bar and in the cart drawer

  • Added recommended products below the Add to Cart button

  • Added a donation Call to Action (CTA) in the cart drawer

  • Set up calculated shipping for more accuracy

  • Set up $4 lettermail shipping for small items like stickers

  • Created CTA banners at the bottom of most pages to encourage visitors to move through the website, usually directing them back to the shop

  • Set up email and SMS flows through Klaviyo for abandoned checkouts, low inventory reminders, price drop notifications, and review requests

Moment of silence for the incredible branding photos that took this website to a whole new level of beautiful

With 1,100+ products in the physical location and online store, this project was a big one! I combed through every product to remove the vendor name from the product title and place it in the vendor field. This shortened the titles and made the browsing experience less cluttered, AND made it easier for staff to search products in-store on the POS.

One of my super powers, and favourite things to do, is improve processes that will level up customer experiences. I don't get to do this in-person very often (manifesting more of this), so this entire project was such a joyful experience for me!

You have to visit The Nest in person!

If you're ever east of Edmonton, head to St. Paul (and soon Vegreville too!) to check out The Nest and grab yourself some baked goods, a power bowl, matcha, and some goodies from the boutique! It's worth the drive for the food alone… OR, you know, shop online at their beautiful new website. ;)
